The Loudoun Knights are excited to announce Mike O'Brien will be the head coach for the 18U Team for the 2024-2025 season. The level this team will be determined after tryouts.

Coach O'Brien will be entering his 5th consecutive season as a head coach of the Loudoun Knights. Coach O'Brien has achieved tremendous success as a coach with the Knights, leading all his teams to CBHL Championship games, and capped off his most successful campaign last season guiding his 14U AA Team to a CBHL Regular Season and Playoff Championship.

"Coach O'Brien is a professional coach in every aspect, and has attained success through preparation, accountability, and a cultural commitment to excellence," said Knights Hockey Director Craig Desjarlais. "As players wind down their youth hockey journeys at the 18U level, including many kids who have played in our club from the onset, Mike will help these players thrive on the ice while also helping them prepare for the next chapter in their lives."

Coach O'Brien is excited to transition to 18U, and is optimistic the Knights will attract a lot of regional talent to compliment our current players in what is anticipated to be a very competitive team!

Alex Guerere will be the 16U AA Head Coach for the 2024-25 season

By Loudoun Knights Staff 03/29/2024, 11:15am EDT

The Loudoun Knights are excited to announce Alex Guerere will be the 16U AA Head Coach for the 2024-25 season. Alex is a very accomplished coach and brings a high level of credibility to our goal of becoming very competitive at the 16U National Conference. The 16U AA team will compete in the National Conference of the CBHL and the 16U Diamond Division in the EJEPL.

"Alex is a very high energy coach that has attained success at both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels," says Knights Director, Craig Desjarlais. "Alex will bring a high level of accountability to our players and challenge them to excel beyond their comfort level and is the perfect coach to put the Knights 16U AA team on the map."

Alex grew up in this region and had a very successful youth career playing for the Washington Little Capitals, before moving on to play for the Washington Jr Nationals. Alex then went on to play 4 years of ACHA Division 1 college hockey at the University of Delaware.

In 2015, immediately upon the completion of Alex's playing career he began coaching, and has been coaching every year since.

Please welcome Coach Guerere to the Loudoun Knights family!

The Loudoun Knights are excited to announce another new leadership position for the 2024- 2025 season. Coach Matt Hart will be the joining as the Director of Coaching Development.

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, and instantly fell in love with the game of hockey when he first started playing at age 6. Throughout his youth, he had the privilege of honing his skills within a single organization, traversing through the ranks from AAA with the West Seneca Wings to Junior "A" with the Buffalo Lightning, and eventually spending two formative years at SUNY Fredonia before hanging up his skates. Shockingly, Matt remembers none of the notable championship victories, but only recalls the camaraderie and mischief shared with his teammates during hotel stays, bus rides, and gatherings at teammates' homes.

"The backbone of any youth hockey organization are the coaches, and adding a huge layer of support and guidance to them will pay huge dividends for the overall product the Knights will offer our players", says Knights Hockey Director, Craig Desjarlais. "Matt is a natural born leader as proven by his decorated career in the Marine Corps, and his extensive career in hockey as a player and a coach. Matt will bring a high level of accountability, knowledge and professionalism to the coaching staff and offer resources rarely seen at the youth coaching level".

Matt's coaching journey started in Okinawa, Japan, where he led a Japanese/US hockey team, witnessing firsthand how the universal language of sports can bridge linguistic and cultural divides. Matt continued his coaching in Woodbridge, VA, and Honolulu, HI, allowing him to gain a wide breadth of experience.

Outside the rink, Matt's dedication extended to a distinguished 17-year career in the Marine Corps, serving with elite reconnaissance and force reconnaissance units. Matt eagerly anticipates leveraging his wealth of leadership experience and hockey background to serve as a resource for the tremendous coaches within the Loudoun Knights organization to make our players better people and hockey players.

Please welcome Matt Hart as the new Director of Coaching Development for the 24/25 Knights season!

Tryouts for the 2024-2025 season begin on March 18 for the 8U-12U players and on April 27th for the 14U -18U players.

Jon Wilkins selected as the 14U AA Head Coach for the 2024-2025 season

By Loudoun Knights Staff 02/28/2024, 7:00am EST

The Loudoun Knights are happy to announce Jon Wilkins as the 14U AA Head Coach for the 2024-2025 season. The 14U AA team will be eligible to qualify for the USA Hockey Tier 2 Nationals and will compete in the CBHL National Conference and the EJEPL 14U Diamond Division.

Jon was born and raised in Torrance, CA and started playing hockey at age 5. He was fortunate to play under many great coaches that shaped him as a player and person, but in particular a former professional player named Steve Cook. Under Steve's tutelage, Jon played for the LA Jr Kings, and was selected to play for the Bismarck Bobcats, a Junior A team in North Dakota.

"Jon's life in hockey as both a player and coach, combined with his decorated career in the Marine Corps embodies everything you could ask for as a leader and mentor," says Knights Hockey, Director Craig Desjarlais. "Jon has been deeply invested in the Knights organization the last 2 seasons as an Associate Head Coach, and this will be a seamless transition into a well deserved head coaching role. Jon will utilize his professional experience to develop a strong team culture, individual and team accountability, proper training habits, leadership and performance".

Jon started coaching in 2017, coaching 8U in Kansas, 10U in Florida, and most recently here with the Knights at 12U and 14U. After graduating from UCLA in 2005, Jon joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Jon's experience in the infantry units in the Marine Corps has given him the tools necessary to develop individuals, teams and organizations.

This will be Jon's 8th consecutive year coaching hockey, and more impressively his 20th year as a Marine. Coach Wilkins says "I look forward to building a team that is tough, disciplined and dynamic."
