Rules for NVSHL Varsity Games at Ion ITC

Due to recent issues at Varsity Hockey Games, we wanted to remind spectators of the rules for those attending these games:

We expect all spectators attending Varsity NVSHL Games at Ion International Training Center to to adhere to the following:

 

USA Hockey Spectator Code of conduct

  • Display good sportsmanship. Always respect players, coaches and officials.
  • Act appropriately; do not taunt or disturb other fans; enjoy the game together.
  • Cheer good plays of all participants; avoid booing opponents.
  • Cheer in a positive manner and encourage fair play; profanity and objectionable cheers or gestures are offensive.
  • Help provide a safe and fun environment; throwing any items on the ice surface can cause injury to players and officials.
  • Do not lean over or pound on the glass; the glass surrounding the ice surface is part of the playing area.
  • Support the referees and coaches by trusting their judgment and integrity.
  • Be responsible for your own safety – be alert to prevent accidents from flying pucks and other avoidable situations.
  • Respect locker rooms as private areas for players, coaches and officials.
  • Be supportive after the game – win or lose. Recognize good effort, teamwork and sportsmanship.

 

The additional rules will be in effect for Varsity games

  • No backpacks will be allowed in the facility for NVSHL Varsity games.  Students may return the backpack to their car or leave it outside but it will not be permitted in the building.
  • Students for the school of the Home team  will be seated in Sections 105-106 only
  • Students for the school of the Away team will be seated in Sections 102-103 only
  • Section 104 is reserved for student press, team officials, faculty, and other pre-approved spectators
  • Students are NOT permitted to sit in the opposing team's section
  • Students will NOT be permitted to watch the game from any other part of the Arena (No one is permitted to stand near the glass for the games under any circumstances)
  • Adults and students accompanied by an adult may be seated beyond the barriers.  They must take a seat in the stands and are not permitted to stand near the glass.
  • Absolutely Nothing will be thrown on the ice.  If something is thrown on the ice and a specific student cannot be identified, the section where the item was thrown from will be ejected.  If no section can be identified, all students will be ejected from the event.
  • Students who use derogatory or hateful language toward players, coaches, officials, or other students will be removed from the facility
  • At the conclusion of the game, the Away team students will be released by Leesburg PD, the home team students will remain in place until instructed to leave by Leesburg PD.

 

Actions spectators can expect

  • Anyone standing near the glass will be asked, one-time, by staff to take a seat (for students that means return to the assigned student section)
  • If a spectator does not return to their assigned seating, they will be removed from the facility
  • Students who linger in restrooms or areas other than the student section will be removed from the facility
  • Any spectator that approaches the glass to bang on it or tap on it with an object will be immediately removed from the facility (Student Cheerleaders will be permitted to perform between the seats and the glass so long as they do not bang on the glass and interfere with the game)
  • Students will not be permitted to move from one  end of the rink to the other to harass the goalies, they must remain in their assigned student seating.
  • Noise makers that disrupt the game will not be permitted (whistles, buzzers, and anything that could replicate an official sound that would stop the game).  Cowbells, horns, noise makers that do not replicate official whistles and horns, and student bands participating are acceptable in this environment.
  • Students displaying signs with derogatory or hateful messages will be removed from the facility
  • Students are expected to exit the facility at the conclusion of the game to make way for the crowd of the next game
  • Absolutely no one (Other than players, Officials, and Coaches) is allowed in the player hallway under the bleachers.
