The Loudoun Knights are pleased to announce Mike O’Brien will return to the Loudoun Knights for a third season as a head coach. Coach O’Brien will be leading the charge for the Knights 14U UA Team for the 22/23 season.

Coach O’Brien grew up in Nova Scotia, Canada where he played his youth hockey and today at the age of 51 hasn’t taken a year off because of his love and passion for this great game.

Mike and his family currently reside in Newmarket MD, but a successful professional career has brought stops to Ontario, Michigan, Florida, and Pennsylvania. At every stop Mike has remained tightly involved in hockey.

Coach O’Brien recently completed his Level 5 USA Coaching Certification, the highest level in USA Hockey. Mike has 10 years of experience coaching youth hockey primarily in this region and considers himself a student of the game. “The game of hockey is ever changing so I am constantly trying to learn as I often “steal with pride” ideas from my peers and friends from back home while also following the American Development Model. Skill development, speed, hard work and fun are my priorities as a coach,” says Mike O’Brien.

Mike has achieved tremendous success in his two years coaching in the Knights program. Most recently, Mike took his 12U AA team to the CBHL Playoff Championship game, and they also earned a berth into the EJEPL Playoffs in a very tough Diamond Division. “The Knights are truly development driven and have a terrific coaching staff that tries to develop just as our players do. We are trying to create a culture of constant improvement which is why I always tell my players their next shift should always be their best shift,” says Coach O’Brien.

“Mike has brought a standard of excellence and accountability to this club and to all the players he has coached over the past two years”, says Loudoun Knights Hockey Director Craig Desjarlais. “Mike is the most organized and prepared youth hockey coach I have ever seen. His dedication to his team and the organization is admirable. Mike is a true leader within the Loudoun Knights Hockey Club”.

Both of Mike’s sons play travel hockey, Teddy (14U) and Thomas (16U). The passion for hockey runs deep in their house and so does their competitive nature. Mike and Teddy are Montreal Canadian fans and Thomas is a Boston Bruins fan.

Please welcome Mike O’Brien as the Loudoun Knights 14U UA Head Coach!
