The Loudoun Knights are pleased to announce that Smith Sanders will return to coach the 14U AA team for the 2022/23 Season.  Smith has been with the club since the 20/21 season and, as a Head Coach, led the 14U Gold to an EJEPL Championship in the 21/22 Season.

“Smith is so proud to be coaching in the Knights organization and is a very important fixture in the building”, says Loudoun Knights Hockey Director Craig Desjarlais. “Smitty has a very impressive hockey resume as a player and he now pours all his passion into giving back to the game as a coach and mentor. He truly cares about each individual player he coaches and understands what type of culture we are striving to build with the Knights. It’s an honor to play for a coach that cares so deeply about the success of his players both on and off the ice”.

Smith grew up in Chapel Hill, NC and began playing hockey at the age of four ultimately landing him in the New England Prep League for High School playing Varsity Hockey and Lacrosse. Smith represented USA Hockey (MA district) as a defenseman in the U17 Junior Olympics, playing in the Czech Republic, Sweden, and Finland. Smith attended the University of Delaware (UD) on a full scholarship for both Hockey and Lacrosse.  He was named the ACHA D1 “Rookie of the Year” in 2003, “MVP” in 2004, and UD Ice Hockey Captain during his Sophomore thru Senior Years.

Coach Sanders expects continuous growth, personal achievement, and a Team first mentality with his players both on and off the ice.
